Furl

These works in this ongoing series are transformed from open bowls. I have explored how shells, that impenetrable protector that once housed life, are the physical record bearing the scars of that lived experience. As dried leaves, marking the seasons. And as a Chrysalis, defined as the 3rd stage in a butterfly’s life cycle, they can symbolize spiritual release from the bondage of the physical world. My furled forms, like a pupa, are the tangible remains of a remarkable transformation. Some fit gently into the crook of my arm, like a newborn baby, others reminiscent of unbridled adolescents.
